Turkey Launches Digital Nomad Visa and Prepares for Tech Visa Program

The Turkish government has announced the launch of a new visa called the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV). This visa is specifically designed for digital nomads who wish to live and work in Turkey. The government has been working on implementing this visa for some time, but it has now become official due to changes in the country’s immigration policies.

Previously, foreigners could easily obtain tourist residency permits, which served as a substitute for the Digital Nomad Visa. However, as the government aims to reform its immigration framework and restrict tourist residencies, the need for a dedicated visa for digital nomads has emerged.

The introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa is part of Turkey’s plan to attract a different audience compared to those applying for tourist residency permits. Digital nomads seek a safe, friendly environment with excellent internet infrastructure, reasonable living costs, and affordable rent. The government believes that having a dedicated visa with a simplified application and renewal process will attract genuine digital nomads.

Turkey has been making significant changes to its immigration policies in recent years. Approval rates for tourist residency permits have decreased, and nationality-specific restrictions have been introduced. These changes have led to the development of the Digital Nomad Visa.

The Digital Nomad Visa is available to citizens of specific countries between the ages of 21 and 55. Applicants must also meet a minimum income threshold of $3,000 per month ($36,000 annually) to qualify.

The Turkish government is also planning a Tech Visa program for startups.

In addition to the Digital Nomad Visa, Turkey is also planning to launch a Tech Visa. This visa is intended for startups and talented individuals in the technology and innovation industry. Although the Tech Visa is still in the planning stage, the government has already established tax advantages, incentives, and benefits related to healthcare and social security.

The Tech Visa will have a duration of three years and will allow applicants to bring their family members, including spouses and minor children. It will provide various benefits such as income tax exemption, social security coverage, and consultancy services.

The Turkish government is expected to announce further details and potential changes regarding the Tech Visa in the future. It is hoped that the implementation of these visa programs will proceed smoothly, providing clarity and support to those interested in living and working in Turkey.
