Thailand Introduces New Visa for Digital Nomads and Remote Workers

Thailand has announced a new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) aimed at digital nomads and remote workers.

The DTV allows stays of up to 180 days, with the visa being valid for 5 years. It has a visa issuance fee of 10,000 Thai baht.

The key benefits of the DTV include:

  • Stay in Thailand for up to 180 days per visit, on a multiple-entry basis within 5 years
  • Ability to extend the visa once for an additional 180 days, with a 10,000 Thai baht extension fee
  • Option to change visa type within Thailand

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be at least 20 years old
  • Provide financial evidence of a supporter or guarantor with a credit limit of at least 500,000 Thai baht
  • Potentially show proof of valid employment with a registered company (expected requirement in early June)

The income requirement for the DTV is much lower compared to digital nomad visas in other Asian countries.

While the specifics are still unclear, it’s expected that DTV holders can work online for overseas clients while in Thailand, but cannot work for a Thai company without a proper work permit.

The new DTV visa is part of Thailand’s efforts to boost tourism and attract more visitors. More details on the application process will be available starting June 1, 2024, with the visa expected to take effect in late June or early July 2024.
